Luckygrams
Get ready for the “ooohs” and “ahhhs” when your kids see these frosted cookie bars! This sugar cookie bar with Lucky Charms cereal and candy sprinkles is as cute as it is delicious. It’s the perfect recipe to share to spread the magic! (Maybe you’ll even decide to share one or two with the kids.)
Ingredient List
Cookie
- 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ sugar cookie mix
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 egg
Frosting
- 1 container (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy vanilla frosting
- Red, yellow, blue food colors
Toppings
- 1/2 cup Lucky Charms™ cereal
- 1 tablespoon rainbow candy sprinkles
Preparation
1. Heat oven to 350°F. Line 13x9-inch pan with foil, leaving foil overhanging at 2 opposite sides of pan; spray with cooking spray.
2. In large bowl, mix cookie mix, softened butter and egg with spoon until soft dough forms. Press dough in bottom of pan. Bake 18 to 23 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely on cooling rack, about 1 hour. Remove bars from pan by lifting foil; peel foil away.
3. Divide frosting into 3 small bowls; tint frosting with food colors to desired pink, yellow, blue colors. Drop colors of frosting by mounded spoonfuls onto cookie bar in a random pattern. With offset metal spatula, spread frosting by carefully swirling the different colors together. Top with cereal and sprinkles. To serve, cut bars into 6 rows by 4 rows.
Tips
- We like using red, yellow and blue food colors for the frosting colors, tinted to match the colors in the Lucky Charms™ cereal marshmallows. Try different colors to switch up the look!
- Using a flat, offset metal spatula makes swirling the frosting a breeze. If you don’t have one, use a butter knife or bagel spreader.
Frosted Cookie Bar Recipe
Moms already wear plenty of hats. Why not add another fun one? There’s no better way to get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit than to dress up like a leprechaun yourself. Tell stories of Lucky’s charm powers while you’re making this top of the morning. And don’t forget to snap a picture of your whole family in their matching hats!
Supplies:
- Headband
- Green construction paper
- Green ribbon
- Green pipe cleaner
- Tape
- Safety scissors or exacto knife
- Hot glue gun
Directions:
1. Print the pattern.
2. Use the patterns to cut the hat pieces out of the green paper.
3. After cutting out the rectangular hat sides, score the “teeth” and fold them to the inside.
4. Cut out the oval hat brim and roll up the long sides using a pencil.
5. Fold the hat brim “teeth” up. Dry the hat sides before adding glue to secure.
6. Add a wide green ribbon hat band, the shamrock, and any other decorative touches.
7. Adhere the paper hat to the headband with hot glue.
Lucky the Leprechaun Hat
Increase your chances of catching those mischievous leprechauns this St. Patrick’s Day, by tricking out your trap with additional bait and decorations to help capture the little guys’ attention. (How can Lucky resist following a charm trail? It’s like a kid being drawn to something right after you tell them not to touch it!) Let your kids’ imaginations run wild while making the ultimate leprechaun trap this year.
Supplies:
- Lucky Charms box with trap on back (See Day 5)
- Rainbow colored construction paper
- Rainbow colored pipe cleaners
- Popsicle sticks colored rainbow colors
- Decorative balls
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun/tape
- Markers
- Safety scissors or exacto knife
Directions:
Magical Rainbow
1. Bend pipe cleaners into the shape of a rainbow.
2. Apply hot glue at each end of the pipe cleaners so they stick together.
3. Glue the pipe cleaners to your trap and add decorative cotton balls at the end to create clouds.
Rainbow Stairs
1. Color popsicle sticks with markers.
2. Cut popsicle sticks into small steps roughly the same size.
3. Next, create riser steps that are slightly less wide. These will be positioned vertically, helping your steps go up.
4. Glue the steps and risers together with the colored part of the popsicle sticks facing up.
5. Finish by gluing the top step to your trap so it stays secure.
Rainbow Walkway
1. For your rainbow, cut thin strips of construction paper the same length and width.
2. Next, cut out two smaller strips the same length and width. These will serve as the base for your rainbow.
3. Tape or glue the ends of your rainbow strips to your base strips lying flat.
4. Tape or glue the base strips to your trap so the strips curve up like a rainbow.
5. Hide your base strips by covering them with decorative cotton balls, which can be made to look like bushes or clouds.

In this DIY obstacle course, the goal is to get to the other side of the house (ahem, Green Milk Lake, that is), by only stepping on rainbow-colored safe zones. As an added challenge, use your phone’s stopwatch to see who can do it the fastest or set new “world records!”
Here’s how:
- Lay out construction paper on the floor (or on tables, chairs, and countertops if you really want to get daring). Pro Tip: Make sure to tape each piece down so nobody slips and falls. You can also use pillows or cushions, to create an even softer landing.
- See how long it takes for your kids to complete the course. If they fall off the safe zones, they have to start all over!
- As an added twist, you can make any green items or furniture in the house also count as a safe zone. If you have a green couch, they can jump on that. Or if there’s a green curtain, touching that keeps them safe, too.
- What’s waiting for them at the end of the course? A bowl of Lucky Charms, of course!
Obstacle Course
Admit it... you love slime. (OK, but even if you don’t, your kids do!) This simple DIY slime recipe — inspired by the legend of Lucky using his clover charm to turn Milk Lake green so he could camouflage himself — brings the magic of the Milk Lake legend to life!
Supplies:
- 2/3 cup of white glue
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ cup water
- 2-3 cups shaving cream
- 1.5 tablespoon contact lens solution
Important: The solution you use must have boric acid and sodium borate in the ingredient list. It’s what forms the slime. We recommend Renu Fresh or Equate.
- Glitter
- Green liquid food coloring
- A bowl
Directions:
1. Add white glue to a bowl.
2. Add water and baking soda. Mix together.
3. Add shaving cream. Mix.
4. Add food coloring and coloring. Mix.
5. Slowly add in contact solution. Start with 1 tablespoon, then knead for 5 minutes. Add ½ tablespoon and keep kneading. It’s normal that your slime is very sticky!
6. Have slimy fun!
Notes:
- If it gets too sticky add some baby oil or lotion to your hands. You can also add more contact solution, just a little at a time. If you add too much it’ll become too firm and not stretch.
- The fluffiness will disappear after the first day, but slime will keep for at least a week in an airtight container.
Green Milk Slime
With a little glue and paper, you can transform empty Lucky Charms boxes into miniature piñatas. Then all it takes is good aim (and a little bit of luck) to open up these swinging pots of gold. Pro tip: If you’re indoors, hang your piñata in a playroom, garage, or an open space where swings-and-misses won’t break anything.
This green-themed fiesta is easy:
- Cut large squares in the front and back of the box
- Glue printer paper over the open squares
- Fill the box with treasures and riches (aka pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters)
- Cover the whole box with yellow construction paper, and draw a pot-of-gold shaped outline on each side
- Then let the kids take their swings to see who gets lucky!
St. Patrick's Day Piñata
St. Patrick’s Day is all about the magic. Add some to your kids’ day by having your little leprechauns write a letter asking for some luck. Leave it out the night before St. Patrick’s Day and write them a response (as Lucky) granting their wish. Make a video of their faces when they see Lucky wrote back!
Supplies:
- Printable letters
- Pencil
- Crayons or colored pencils
Letters To Lucky
Three things leprechauns love: green, gold, and Lucky Charms. That’s why this Lucky Charms Leprechaun Gold Snack Mix might be your best bait to trick that leprechaun into a trap this year. Leave some out the night before St. Patrick’s Day to lure leprechauns your way, and make sure to make extra for your family to enjoy. (We won’t tell if you decide to keep it all to yourself!)
Ingredient List:
- 8 cups Original Lucky Charms™ cereal
- 1 bag (12 oz) white vanilla baking chips
- 1/3 cup rainbow candy sprinkles
- 2 cups mini vanilla wafer cookies
- Gold color mist shimmering food color spray (from 1.5-oz spray can)
- 1 cup green candy-coated chocolate candies
Preparation:
1. Line 2 large rimmed pans with waxed paper. Pour Lucky Charms™ cereal into 1 of the pans. Pick out all the marshmallows; set aside to add to the mix later. Add cereal pieces to large bowl.
2. In a medium microwavable bowl, microwave white vanilla baking chips uncovered on High 45 seconds; stir. Continue microwaving in 15-second increments, until chips are melted and smooth. Pour over cereal pieces in large bowl; toss to evenly coat.
3. Spread mixture in single layer in pan. Immediately sprinkle with candy sprinkles. Cool about 30 minutes or until set.
4. Meanwhile, spread cookies in single layer, right side up, in remaining pan. Spray cookies with food spray. Wait 5 minutes to dry. Turn cookies over; repeat spraying on bottom side. Set aside.
5. Gently break up coated cereal mixture into bite-size pieces, and place in large bowl. Toss in reserved marshmallows, cookies and chocolate candies. Store covered in airtight container.
Tips:
- Food color spray can be found at specialty craft stores or some large grocery stores.
- Since microwave ovens vary, carefully watch when melting white vanilla baking chips, to avoid burning.

Leprechaun Bait
It’s almost impossible to actually catch Lucky, but sometimes he leaves clues that he’s been there, creating mischief. With some green food dye or washable (REPEAT: Wash. A. Ble.) paint, you can create some evidence that will amaze the kids. (Don’t forget to film their reactions!)
Here are some ideas:
- Create Little green footprints all over the house (floors, walls...ceiling?!)
- Turn A white shirt in their drawer green
- Dress their Stuffed animals in your kids’ clothes
- Make The toilet water is green
- Move or stack your kids’ toys in a tower or set them up in fun scenes
- Leave little green handprints on Letters to Lucky!
Lucky Was Here
When you're a mom, super simple = magical! Just ten minutes the night before, and then you and your little leprechauns can wake up the next morning to a fruity frozen snack, meal, or treat. With only three ingredients, it doesn’t get any easier, or more magically delicious, than this!
Ingredient List
- 3 containers (6 oz each) Yoplait® Original French vanilla yogurt
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced strawberries
- 3/4 cup Fruity Lucky Charms™ cereal
Preparation
Line a large rimmed cookie sheet with cooking parchment paper or waxed paper. Stir each container of yogurt. Spread yogurt to form a 13x10-inch rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
Top with remaining ingredients; press into yogurt. Freeze 2 to 3 hours or until frozen. Break into pieces; serve immediately. Store in a covered container in your freezer.
Tips
Store leftover frozen bark covered in the freezer for up to 1 week. Yogurt bark starts to melt quickly, so be sure to keep it in the freezer until just before serving.
Mixing yogurt with a spoon before spreading on parchment will help eliminate any lumps in yogurt.
